Duct and Envelope Testing

Duct and Envelope Testing

Program Description

To comply with the International Energy Code, most states now require duct and building envelope testing for both new construction and retrofits. Duct and Envelope Testing provides an in-depth understanding of the building envelope leakage testing and duct leakage testing. The testing procedures, methods of expressing results, and terminology are covered in detail.

Audience

This program can be incorporated into any HVACR educational curriculum that teaches duct and envelope testing, as part of your current program or can be used as a stand-alone course.

Wholesalers, manufacturers, and continuing education providers can use this program as a continuing education course to reinforce concepts in a 4-6-hour training program.

A Comprehensive Resource

This five-section manual provides an understanding of the terminology and building science affecting energy efficiency. The required tools and testing procedures used to evaluate a building’s envelope and the duct systems are covered.

The manual provides and explains the methods for expressing and recording envelope or duct leakage test results. It clarifies what the numbers expressed from the test results mean to the home owner and local code officials.

The manual contains a worksheet for each section. The spiral binding will allow students to tear out the worksheets and submit them for grading.

Registered proctors can review a digital version of the manual by logging in and visiting the resource center.

PowerPoint presentation: The instructor resource materials include a 173-slide PowerPoint presentation that correlates directly with the training manual. Each slide within the presentation contains speaker notes that are designed to aid the instructor through the presentation and provide additional talking points.

Instructor Guide: Is a 32-page instructional supplement with course objectives, an estimated delivery time to keep the program on track, and answers to student worksheets. Instructor resource materials are available through digital download or CD.

Certification

Both written and hands-on performance Duct and Envelope Testing Certifications are available to validate a person's retained knowledge of the program and show that they can apply this knowledge in a real-world setting.

These exams identify that a technician has required knowledge and ability to perform envelope and duct leakage testing. A candidate must pass both the written and hands-on examinations to earn this sought-after certification.

Proctors can login to review candidate test results and access detailed statistical reports. These reports help instructors pinpoint strengths and weaknesses in their instruction. Additionally, these reports aid the program in preparing documentation for Perkins compliance.
