Pneumatic to DDC in 20 Minutes - Non-invasive Retrofit of Pneumatic Thermostats

Presented by: Harry Sim of Cypress Envirosystems

Location: Legacy South 3

Pneumatic controls are still used in 70% of non-residential buildings, use more energy and require more

maintenance than traditional controls. Converting to DDC is often a costly process with long payback periods

and major building occupant disruption. In this session, attendees will learn about new non-invasive

technologies which install easily and cost much less than conventional DDC.

Size Matters

Presented by: Gene Ziegler of Parker Hannifan, Sporlan Divisions

Location: Legacy North 1

Refrigerant flow control valves work best when they are sized properly for their application. For many

applications, sizing is absolutely critical in order to achieve stable and optimal performance. This session will

discuss these issues and provide tips on how to convey this important material to your students.

Lab Exams: The Real Deal

Presented by: Carter Stanfield of Pearson

Location: Legacy North 2

This session will cover ways to administer hands-on exams in the lab, award defensible grades for lab

projects, and document the results.

Predictive Balancing Method to Balance HVAC Systems

Presented by: Robert Moss of Dwyer Instruments

Location: Legacy South 1

Predictive Balancing simplifies the Proportional Balancing method, taking the guesswork out of setting

dampers by determining the optimal flow rate for each terminal and reducing the number of steps required to

balance an HVAC system. An explanation of the method and field test results will be presented.
