Hands on Method to Teach the Operation and Troubleshooting Thermostatic Expansion Valves

Randy Petit, HVAC Excellence and Eugene Silberstein, ESCO Group

Location:

Classroom 5

This demonstration will cover techniques that simplify an understanding of the theory, operation, and

troubleshooting of Thermostatic Expansion Valves. When students can control the pressures and

temperatures they can see the effects of valve operation and bring it all together which enhances their ability

to understand and troubleshoot TXV's efficiently. Information for constructing this simple device used for the

hands on demonstration will be provided.

Acceptance Testing

Tom Meyer, ESCO Group

Location:

Classroom 6

Acceptance testing, part of the commissioning process, is fast becoming an item of interest and requirement

for authorities having jurisdiction. It is seen as a path to resolve issues with buildings not performing as

expected or required by new efficiency codes. This session will cover what is acceptance testing, why it is

seen as a solution to poor performing buildings, what are the licensing/certification requirements to perform

acceptance testing, what is the life cycle of a project and how does acceptance testing fit into it, how should

this affect your curriculum and how will the popularity of acceptance testing affect the professional future of

your students.
