Using Infrared Thermography for Troubleshooting HVAC

Russell Bushee, Infrared Training Center/Flir

Location:

Classroom 3

This session will cover the theory behind infrared energy and how an infrared camera operates and how to

save time troubleshooting HVAC units. This session will explain how to interpret images, how infrared can

help in troubleshooting and maintaining HVAC units.

Common HVAC Electrical Problems and the Diagnostic Tool Needed to Get the Job Done Right

Roger Mavrides , TESTO

Location:

Classroom 4

This session will cover the challenges of troubleshooting electrical failures in HVACR systems. In addition it

will cover the key tools and instruments which will enable the technician to complete the job right the first

time with optimum efficiency.

Hands on Method to Teach the Operation and Troubleshooting Thermostatic Expansion Valves

Randy Petit, HVAC Excellence and Eugene Silberstein, ESCO Group

Location:

Classroom 5

This demonstration will cover techniques that simplify an understanding of the theory, operation, and

troubleshooting of Thermostatic Expansion Valves. When students can control the pressures and

temperatures they can see the effects of valve operation and bring it all together which enhances their ability

to understand and troubleshoot TXV's efficiently. Information for constructing this simple device used for the

hands on demonstration will be provided.

Evolving Compressor Electronics Technology

Bob Feathers, Emerson Climate Technologies

Location:

Classroom 6

Electronic modules are becoming the norm. Today’s technician must have a competent working

understanding of how these devices assist in troubleshooting the compressor and HVACR systems. In this

presentation we will review how the compressor is used as a sensor to help the technician be more efficient

at his or her job. The attendees will be able to share this information with students and apprentices to have

an understanding of the benefits of electronics for our industry. This session will review Comfort and

Performance Alert modules and the early versions of Intelligent Store Discus. CoreSense Protection and

Diagnostics will be covered so that the technician can understand the fault codes and troubleshoot the

modules.
