Richard Foster

Richard Foster, with over 40 years experience, is the foremost expert on zone damper systems. He started and developed the first zone damper system back in the 1950's, Trol-A-Temp. In the early 1970's he started the first toll-free industry help line and managed calls for design and technical assistance. It was because of Trol-A-Temp that several major names entered the zone damper market. During the 1990's it was the Trol-A-Temp Alliance and eventual acquisition by Honeywell where Mr. Foster taught Honeywell the zoning business. Trol-A-Temp was started by Mr. Foster's father in 1964. After selling to Honeywell, Mr. Foster started another zoning brand now known as ZONEFIRST. Mr. Foster developed and designed several controllers and damper designs that continue to lead the way in simplifying the installation of zoning. Mr. Foster has trained thousands in the HVAC industry over the last 40-years including designers, installers, and technicians, via ACCA, RSES, ASHRAE, and HRAI meetings to name a few, as well as through local distributors across North America. His plain and simple message is well received, and he has been called Mr. Zone Control.
